Sir Terry Pratchett by Puddingbat
Sir Terry Pratchett
I finally finished my Terry Pratchett acrylic painting after having some leftover paint from the Abyssal painting I made. I was originally going to do a monochrome underpainting then glaze over the top but felt the need to stop and leave it just in Black and White. My first Pratchett book was Wyrd Sisters, lent to me by a friend at secondary school, and I was pretty much hooked after Douglas Adams. Original is for sale over on Etsy if you really like it. I don't tend to work in acrylics much as I am a little impatient and always worried I'll bork it, but I guess they are more forgiving than watercolour.

Abyssal (charcoal edition) by Puddingbat
Abyssal (charcoal edition)
So, followers and friends, you may have been aware I entered some work for a competition and exhibition at University College London in association with the SANE mental health charity and UCL's Neuroscience society. They raised about £2000 as a result of the auction and someone now owns this bit of paper. It was requested that the work not be released before the exhibition and it's well after that now so here it is. Charcoal on Fabriano paper.

Abyssal 2 by Puddingbat
Abyssal 2
Acrylic on canvas board. A view of my depression differing from a charcoal edition to be exhibited and auctioned as part of the Mental Health and the Brain exhibition in association with SANE and University College London www.uclneurosoc.org/artexhibit… It's about how focussed depression makes the mind so the beautiful sky and everything pleasant is removed from life, and how dark life feels. I drew the competition entry on the Friday before the due date (everything at the last minute as usual) and then painted this version on the Saturday then had the decision of which one to send in. I kept this one as I felt the black and white was more stark and visceral than this more pleasant version. I tried to make it mostly correct so it differs from the reference photo a bit as I couldn't be bothered to make it exact.

Commission for a companion for a cat, a dragon on some wedding invites and relatexing some weapons and making some larp replicas.
In other news: my councilor tells me I'm charging too little for my art: Instead of buying cards or presents (cos I'm cheap) I make cards or draw presents instead. Self esteem issues and depression has devalued my work, and chucking it into the wind here and having no comments and few favourites doesn't help much.
What am I doing wrong? I need to draw more (hurr derr) but that is tricky when I have a mucky house with stuff that always needs putting away. I need to charge more (£6/8 per hour is unacceptable my councilor says, and so is £16 per hour... just) How should I value my own work when I know friends can't necessarily afford it? Sure, I'll charge a bit more for all those corporate commissions I'm getting...... tumbleweed..... crickets chirp.....
